Benjamín Sesko, Manchester United’s forward, was decisive in the victory against Everton and has 5 goals in 6 games since the dismissal of the Portuguese coach, compared to 2 goals in 16 matches.
Benjamin Sesko , hero of Manchester United ‘s 1-0 victory over Everton , revealed that Michael Carrick is preparing him for a starting position, despite the Slovenian striker having been a substitute in every game under his management. Sesko’s goal at Hill Dickinson Stadium last Monday secured three points for United and was his fifth goal in six games, almost all of them coming off the bench. Since Carrick took over, the team has won five of those six matches.
Signed last summer from Leipzig for an initial fee of €76.5 million, plus €8.5 million in add-ons, at the request of Ruben Amorim, the 22-year-old forward has scored eight goals in all competitions, but has only started 11 Premier League games this season. When asked about his role in the team, Sesko confirmed having spoken with the English manager.
“Of course we talk, but he believes in me,” he said. “Everyone believes in me and they’re preparing me to be a starter as soon as possible. The most important thing is for me to show up when needed, regardless of the minutes I get. I’m focused on performing well and helping the team secure victories,” he added.
The Slovenian international downplays the pressure to be a starter, preferring to focus on making the most of his opportunities. “I’m adapting to the league game by game. I don’t even think: ‘I have to be a starter, I have to be a starter’. When the coach decides to put me on the field, I’ll be there. If I get five minutes, I’ll use them. It’s just about enjoying myself and contributing to the team,” he explained.
Regarding the pressure to score goals for United , Sesko sees it as a “privilege.” “If I want to be a good player, it’s something I have to have. It’s something that has to exist if you want to play at the highest level. It’s a matter of accepting it and not worrying too much about it. It doesn’t really affect me,” he assured.
The forward highlighted the good understanding with his attacking teammates. “We understand each other well. We do a lot of work in training and we put in a lot of effort. That’s why it’s important to have so much quality in the team,” he said, also addressing the rumors in England about a possible collaboration with former United striker Dimitar Berbatov.
“I’ve heard the rumors. I haven’t had any conversations with him, but I would very much like to. It would be very good,” admitted Sesko , who, however, praised the work already underway: “We have the technical team that does individual work every day, and that is helping me a lot to focus on these moments.”
